A wonderful example of this journey is Rosa C., the Hospital Operations Manager (HOM) at our Decatur Vetco Total Care in Las Vegas. From starting as a Veterinary Assistant in 2020 to running a thriving hospital today, Rosa's story shows what’s possible when clinical passion meets a supportive, growth-oriented environment.

"I started as a Veterinary Assistant in 2020 at our first ever Vetco Total Care Summerlin. Within a couple of years, I was able to transfer to a new location to pursue advancement into the Leader On Duty (LOD) role. With encouragement and support from my Area Operation Manager (AOM) at the time I took on stretch project acting as Interim HOM role at some of the clinics in our market until finally given the opportunity to fill in as The Hospital Operation Manager at Decatur (2122) in 2024."

For Rosa, being a great leader means making sure her team thrives, pet parents are happy, and everyone feels supported. When we asked her what she loves most about her role as a partner, she shared:

"Having the ability to provide a positive culture amongst my team, positive work life balance. Building trusting relationships with pet parents."

Whether she's supporting her team’s clinical skills or giving pet parents extra peace of mind, Rosa is dedicated to providing gold-standard, compassionate medicine every single day:

"I strive to provide my team the tools and education to be able to practice gold standard medicine. Advocate for those who don't have a voice by educating pet parents. Practice fear free methods and provide comfort to both pets and clients during difficult circumstances. Support pet parents to help them achieve a meaningful bond when adopting new pets."

One of the ways Rosa ensures her team is always growing is by taking full advantage of Petco's learning perks:

"I love the C.E (continuing education) stipend that Petco gives to all our Veterinary staff. This helps support our staff in continuing to learn and provide growth with confidence in our field."

We do our best work when we can be our 100% authentic selves. For Rosa, having the freedom to bring her vibrant personal style to the clinic makes all the difference:

"Petco gave me the comfort and allowed for me to come to work with colorful hair patterns and dress in a style that is within policy but fits my style."
