Meet The Petco Medical Leadership Team

Whitney Miller, DVM, MBA, DACVPM
VP, Chief Veterinarian
Fueled by her passion for making a positive impact in pets’ lives, Dr. Whitney Miller (she/her/hers) serves as Petco’s Chief Veterinarian.

Dr. Miller is the lead veterinary subject matter expert advising Petco as a health and wellness company and overseeing the organization’s standards of excellence in animal care and welfare. She provides strategic direction and medical management for Petco’s growth in veterinary services and offers cross-functional support across the company to marketing, communications, legal, merchandising, pet services and more.

Dr. Miller leads Petco’s medical team, which supports more than 250 full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals, as well as mobile Vetco clinics operating in over 1,000 Petco pet care centers nationwide.

Dr. Miller is a member of the Petco Pet Wellness Council (PPWC), an independent coalition of leading experts in veterinary science and animal care that serve as an external source of unbiased advice and counsel to Petco on a range of topics across the pet care industry. She also serves as a board member of Petco Love, an independent nonprofit organization committed to creating a better world for animals and the people who love them. Together, Petco and Petco Love have helped find homes for nearly 7 million animals to date.

Throughout her veterinary career, Dr. Miller has spent time in emergency and general companion animal veterinary practice, worked in pharmacovigilance reporting for Zoetis and spent time in federal government relations for the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), advocating on animal welfare issues.

Dr. Miller received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and master’s degree in business administration degrees from Colorado State University. She has been board-certified in preventive medicine since 2018. Dr. Miller is based in Petco’s Satellite Support Center in San Antonio and continues to practice companion animal medicine every chance she gets.
Shelly Ferris, DVM
Regional Medical Director

As Regional Medical Director, I work to ensure our hospital teams’ voices are heard and that they have the support they need to provide the very best veterinary care possible to pets in their communities."

A passionate advocate for veterinary wellness and autonomy, Dr. Ferris serves as a Regional Medical Director for Petco and Vetco Total Care.

After earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003, Dr. Ferris joined a national veterinary network as an Associate DVM. As she became more engaged in the business and people- management side of veterinary medicine, she took on the role of Chief of Staff. Dr. Ferris then served as a Medical Director for more than a decade, and was named Medical Director of the Year, twice.

Dr. Ferris is the recipient of the Preventive Care Award and the Pawsability Award for Helping to Keep Pets and People Together. She also served as the Director of Veterinary Quality before joining Vetco Total Care in 2019.

She is proud of the ways Vetco Total Care is making life at work better than ever for doctors and paraprofessionals, reducing overall stress and creating happier, healthier hospital teams. 


Alison Marsh, DVM, JD

Quality - of care, education, doctor and patient experience - drive Dr. Alison Marsh, Regional Medical Director for Petco and Vetco Total Care.

After graduating from Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Marsh joined a small practice as an Associate Veterinarian where she nurtured her lifelong passion for feline internal medicine – and later served as a Board Member for the Portland Cat Adoption Team for four years.

Following several years in private practice, Dr. Marsh joined a national veterinary network as an Associate Veterinarian followed by a role as Medical Advisor. During this time, she earned her Juris Doctor degree from SMU Dedman School of Law.

Her expertise in both veterinary medicine and law led her to a new role as the Director of Medical Quality, Risk and Patient Safety. 

In 2016, Dr. Marsh joined Petco where she served three years as the Medical Director for Vetco Vaccination Clinics, overseeing national medical quality, veterinary formulary direction and selection, medical education for products and services, and regulatory/compliance guidance.

In January 2020, Dr. Marsh became Regional Medical Director for Vetco Total Care hospitals. In her free time, she loves to play competitive tennis, pickleball and hike throughout the Pacific Northwest with her husband.
Angela Silva, DVM

A natural leader and skilled mentor, Dr. Angela Silva is Regional Medical Director for Petco and Vetco Total Care. 

After graduating in 2011 from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Angela Silva joined a private practice in New York as an Associate DVM where she honed her skills in diagnostic medicine.

In 2016, she joined a national veterinary network as a Medical Director and discovered how much she enjoyed teaching, mentoring, and leading teams with compassion, care, and positivity. 

In 2020, Petco welcomed Dr. Silva as an Area Medical Director. As Vetco Total Care grew quickly, so did Dr. Silva as she was named Regional Medical Director in 2022.

This year, she received a Petco Epic Elite Achiever award for her outstanding contributions toward our mission to improve lives. Dr. Silva is very proud to be part of this journey for pets, pet parents and Petco partners.
 

When not working, she loves to spend time with her husband, two children, and their dog, a standard poodle. She is also managing a growing school of colorful tropical fish.
