Employee Spotlight: Growing with Purpose at Petco
Not every career starts with a clear plan, but the right environment can turn a part-time job into a fulfilling career.
Joseph, now a Petco Store General Manager in Washington state, started his journey as an aquatics specialist while still in college, an early-career role grounded in aquatic expertise and customer care. What followed was a path shaped by encouragement, development and a culture that spots potential early and nurtures it.
“I had just turned 22 and didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life,” he shared. “But my General Manager, David, saw something in me, challenged me, and gave me a sense of purpose,” says Joseph.
Early on in his time with Petco, Joseph’s manager identified him as a high-potential partner (employee). Through consistent coaching and learning and development opportunities, Joseph earned four promotions in just a few years, ultimately becoming a Petco Store General Manager. His career path shows what’s possible when leaders invest in their teams and partners are empowered to grow and own their careers.
Joseph explains, “Being in an environment where positivity is encouraged and where so many people genuinely care about the well-being of animals and pet parents makes this work incredibly rewarding.”
